Your Guide To Allergy-Proof Your Ride This Spring!
Scrub-a-dub-dub! It’s another cleaning blog and I know you’re probably wondering when these will end, and the answer is probably never! This week we have your guide on how to allergy-proof your ride so you don’t suffer from the sniffles, watering eyes, and sneezes this spring season! Check out these tips below and stop in to see our team if we can be of further assistance to you or if you’re in need of upgrading into a brand new CJDR from Zappone! We’re here to help and we hope to see you soon!
Clean It
The best way to start allergy-proofing your vehicle is to start with a clean slate. Yes, I know. More spring cleaning? Sorry but yup! You know just how dirty your vehicle can get, now think about how all that dirt, dust, and grime is adding to your allergies and making them worse. Totally nasty! We recommend wiping down your dashboard, seating, and vents as often as possible with a damp microfiber cloth and a solution with no irritants, harsh chemicals or strong scents. Vacuum, wash your floor mats and let dry completely before placing back into your vehicle. If you do, your floor mats can begin to grow mold and that’s not what we want! Stay away from air fresheners or cleaners that have harsh chemicals or any that could cause nasal irritation.
Contain It
Our clothing and shoes are the most frequent way allergens make their way into our vehicle’s cabin, which means it’s a smart idea to remove those articles of clothing that have come in contact with those allergens, if possible. We recommend storing them in a separate area, like your trunk and keep them confined, perhaps in a plastic bin. Keep your windows closed to keep allergens out during windy days or when pollen is at its peak. Go the extra mile to ensure that your weather stripping in intact and every window/ door shuts properly so dander can’t find a way in. If you’re traveling with pets this spring, keep them in their cage in your trunk or backseat with a t-shirt on them to keep their fur and dander from spreading all over the cabin!
Replace It
Cabin and air filters are your best friends when it comes to healthy and happy cabin breathing! Most people don’t know this but if your filters have deteriorated you’re breathing in all sorts of nasty particles. So, if you can’t remember the last time you swapped out those filters, now is the time to do it. It’s also a great idea to check up on those filters once again after pollen season or really any season for that matter. You’re looking to see if the filters have deteriorated, clogged or they are still in proper shape.
Invest In It
Investing in keeping your vehicle clean is a great way to cut back on those allergens. Our first investment is easy peasy, we recommend stopping by the car wash especially when pollen is out of control. Not only will this wash off all the dirt just lurking on your vehicle, but it also cuts back on the chances of that pollen making its way into your cabin if you bump up against your vehicle or through your air vents. All-weather floor mats are a great investment and can cut back on dander that calls your vehicle’s carpet floor mats home.
Don’t Be A Fool, Service Your Ride Today!
I know you’re planning all of your spring road trips and getting ready to pack the family in the vehicle to head out for some family fun. But before you do that – there are a few things that you should be checking for on your vehicle. I know that your vehicle is one heck of a gadget that has plenty of things that can go wrong, especially during the winter weather conditions. So, with that being said, I put together a list of things that should be at the top of your list when it comes to showing your vehicle a little TLC this spring. We encourage you to take a look at those below and head out to your vehicle to ensure that it’s in proper working condition. Not sure if these tasks are something that you’re confident with? Not to worry! Our team can take care of all of those things for you right here at Zappone CJDR in Granville! Just stop in to see our team or schedule your service appointment online today! We’re here to help, now let’s get started!
Things To Check Up On:
- Check on all of your vehicle’s fluids. Engine oil, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid, power steering fluid, and others alike. If these fluids look dirty, be sure to swap them out or let a professional do it.
- Be sure to check on the hoses and belts under the hood of your vehicle. Check for cracking, bulging, and excessive wear and tear.
- Take a look at your battery, make sure it has tight connections, is corrosive free, and ready to take you the distance this summer.
- If you haven’t had an oil change recently, check up on your brake linings, rotors and drums.
- Hearing noises? It might be your exhaust system. Check for damage or leakage.
- Want great fuel economy and low-level emissions? Schedule an engine tune-up!
- Temperatures are on the rise – give your HVAC system a look over and have it serviced if you think your system is having issues.
- Fill up your tires to the proper PSI levels and check your tread levels. Look for uneven tread wear or excessive wear and tear.
- Your lighting is a vital component in your vehicle. Be sure to check over all the lighting fixtures and ensure that bulbs are in proper working condition. If your headlights look foggy, try reconditioning them first.
- Don’t forget about your windshield wipers. April is known for heavy rain showers. Don’t be caught in the rain with old, worn out wipers!

It’s Time To Organize Your Garage: Here’s How
Spring is here and that means your list of spring cleaning is slowly growing. And unfortunately, I am here to add one more thing to that list. But luckily, I am providing you with a guide so you won’t have to spend all your time wondering how to clean it and you’ll able to get right down to business. And we’re going to do the same. Let’s get right into our guide on how to organize your garage this spring.
Decluttering is key
Your first step is to declutter your garage. I know you are not 100% sure what type of items have been collecting over the years and made your precious garage it’s new home but it is time to find out. I recommend cleaning out your garage. And I mean removing every single item from it. While you’re doing that, be sure to separate your items into three piles: a keep, a rehome, and toss/ recycle properly pile. I like to keep the mindset that if I haven’t used an item in over 6 months, it’s time to part ways! But if you truly can’t decide, I recommend storing the item and if you don’t use in a month’s time – definitely toss.
Cleaning is fun
Now onto the cleaning portion, we know, it’s not everyone’s favorite part nor is it fun but it is definitely an important part in getting organized and staying that way. At this point, your garage should be totally empty and we want you to clean it. And I mean really clean it with a little elbow grease. The floor, the shelves, under the benches, the ceiling, gosh if you can clean it – just do it! It might be a pain now, but you will thank yourself in the long run! Plus, having a clean garage will make the things you own look much better and newer which is a bonus. And who wants their vehicle sitting in a grimy looking garage? No one, so, clean everything and anything to make it look nice. You’ll even be able to show it off at your next family BBQ!
Organization is KEY
Seriously. When I think about being organized, I think about being successful and that’s truly the end goal, right? Right. And, if you have you ever been looking for something and can’t find it because you are not organized, it’s frustrating. Choose how you want to organize your items and stick to the plan you set. There are plenty of options. Storage shelving, workbench, cabinets, wall or ceiling racks – choose what’s best for you and install. I personally like racks because you can get your items stored out of the way yet still able to see where they are. And shelving is a great option if you tend to have a lot of bulky items. They can live off the garage floor but still in sight if you need something.
It’s time to rehome
Once the above steps are complete, start putting your belongings back into your garage in their new home. I like to keep like items together like fluids, paints, and other liquids, etc. but like I said, choose a plan that works for you and stick to it. Keep all of your tools in one location so you know where to go when you’re looking for something specific. Also, keep items that you use frequently closer to your reach versus storing them up high. This will allow you to grab and go without having to fumble with the ladder.

Winter Is Still Here & Here Are Some Vehicle Tips!
Yes, winter is STILL HERE. I know we’re all dreaming of pool days and warm sunshine but unfortunately, that time is not here yet. We’re still dealing with some pretty chilly temperatures which means your vehicle is taking a beating! That’s not good for you, your vehicle or your wallet. So, this week we have a few vehicle tips to ensure you and your vehicle make it through the winter happy and healthy. Well, for your vehicle it needs to be serviced and for yourself, take some vitamin C and hope that you don’t get a nasty flu! Anyways, back to the winter vehicle tips – check them out below and stop in or give us a call to schedule your service appointment before it’s too late!
Don’t skimp on service:
- I know a lot of drivers think skipping on service isn’t that bad for their vehicle. When in fact, it’s terrible for their vehicle! We recommend spending a few minutes with our team and have our mechanics check for any leaks, badly worn hoses, or other parts needing to be replaced or repaired. A simple maintenance check-up will make a big difference in frigid temperatures and will give you peace of mind when you’re on the road.
Know your vehicle:
- We hope you know your vehicle, but how well do you know it? Do you know how your vehicle handles in snowy or icy winter weather conditions? We hope you do especially living here in New York when weather can be a bit wacky at times. Regardless, we want you to drive slow, take your time, and ALWAYS clean off your vehicle completely before leaving. Also, a great set of winter tires can also enhance your success in winter weather and even having the correct PSI will offer better driving results.
Be smart & stock your vehicle:
- As you know, winter weather is unpredictable and road conditions are no better, that’s why you should be prepared for anything and everything in the winter months. We recommend having a plan and proper gear packed in the event of an emergency. What should you pack? We recommend packing a small snow shovel, ice scraper, and snow broom to clean off or around your vehicle. Also, jumper cables, a flare, and emergency markers are great tools to have if you ever find yourself stuck needing assistance. You should ALWAYS keep a blanket, warm clothing, a phone charger, and something to eat or drink in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
Set yourself up for success and let’s make it through the rest of the winter!
