Hosting a Thanksgiving Gathering

Celebrating this holiday virtually or with the people you live with is the safest choice this Thanksgiving. But if you are having guests to your home this holiday, we encourage that people follow the steps that will keep everyone safe and healthy this week. Those steps include:

  • Consider having a small outdoor meal with family and friends who live in your community and limit the number of guests at your home.
  • Have conversations with guests ahead of time to set expectations for celebrating together.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and items between use and make hand sanitizer accessible to guests.
  • If celebrating indoors, open windows and doors, if possible, to bring fresh air into your home. A window fan in one of the open windows to blow air out of the window is a great option to help circulate air and will pull fresh air in through the other open windows.
  • Limit the number of people in food preparation areas.
  • Ask guests to bring their own food and drink.
  • If sharing food, have one person serve food and use single-use options, like plastic utensils.

Attending a Gathering

Celebrating virtually or with the people you live with is the safest choice this Thanksgiving but if you choose to attend a gathering, we want to help make your celebration safer. In addition to following the guidelines that will keep everyone safe, below are a few steps to follow if you’re attending a gathering.

  • Bring your own food, drinks, plates, cups, and utensils. use single-use options, like salad dressing and condiment packets, and disposable items like food containers, plates, and utensils.
  • Wear a mask and safely store your mask while eating and drinking.
  • Avoid going in and out of the areas where food is being prepared or handled.
  • Take your garbage with you. This will help cut back on contamination.
