If you’re one of the lucky people who have a garage, you know that your garage is the place that you toss all of your belongings that don’t have a designated home. And if you’ve been using your garage as a receptacle, it’s likely that organization is the last thing on your list. But this week we want to focus on that organization and help you find a plan that will get your items in check. Take a look below and if you’re ready to upgrade your ride, come see our team because we guarantee there is a perfect CJDR waiting for you right here!

Set aside the time to tackle the project

  • Allow yourself an ample amount of time to tackle the project at hand. We know you might not want to sacrifice an entire weekend, but it’s usually your best option. Always choose a dry weekend as no one wants to work in the rain.

Categorize your items and group them together

  • When you’re cleaning out your garage, categorize the times and keep like items together. This will help you organize and find them a home when it’s time to fill the garage back up. For example, keep camping gear together, recreational sports gear together, seasonal decor together, you get the idea!

Find your layout

  • Your garage should have a layout that flows and considers the frequency of item usage when giving your gear a home. For example, your garbage cans and recycling should live near the entrance. Tools should live near your workbench. Use the ‘valuable real estate’ idea when giving your items a home.

Install an organization plan

  • Whether you choose built-in cabinets, modular storage, or another organizational system, it’s a great idea to have your plan in place and stick to it. Make the most of the vertical space in your garage, mounted pegboards work perfectly for this. Also, stick to your plan by cleaning and organizing biannually, every quarter, whatever you choose.
