Swap out regular tires for winter tires. Snow or not, when temperatures fall below 45 degrees, winter tires are recommended. They're made to give you better traction while turning or stopping on cold pavement. Check your tire pressure weekly. Driving on underinflated tires can cause them to wear down prematurely and lose traction on icy or slippery surfaces. Your tires lose a pound of pressure with every 10-degree drop in temperature. Always keep your fuel tank half full. During winter weather, it's important to keep at least half a tank of fuel in the vehicle in the event of an emergency or if you get stuck in the snow and wait for assistance. Pack an emergency to-go kit. We encourage you to keep an extra coat, blanket, boots, gloves, and a hat inside your vehicle when the temperatures drop. We also recommend keeping a flashlight, first aid kit, and emergency contact information or AAA handy. Protect your windshield wipers. If you park outdoors, leave the wipers in the raised position to prevent them from freezing to the windshield. Never use your wiper blades to remove ice, snow, or frost from the windshield; use an ice scraper instead.

One of the best ways to keep your CJDR running smoothly all winter long is by checking your oil frequently. I know, I know, seems silly, but it’s not! Your engine oil provides lubrication to the many moving parts of an engine, which helps to avoid damage and keep your engine running smoothly. If you neglect to check your oil, you could run into costly damages. So take a peek below to see how to check your engine oil, and if your find you’re in need of an oil change, just give us a call or schedule an appointment online! We ensure we will get your CJDR back into tip-top shape and on the road in no time! Checking Oil: How To Open the hood. Prop it so it stays open. Locate the oil dipstick next to the engine. It should have a yellow handle and/or be labeled. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it on a clean cloth or paper towel. Dip the stick all the way back in. Pull it out again and look at the oil level. If it’s in the middle of the hatched/indicated area, you’re good. More is better, less is okay, but if you’re lower than the area you need to get your oil topped up and have your system checked for leaks. Look at the oil quality and color. If there are a lot of particles or if the oil looks sludgy, you need to get it changed as soon as possible. Put the dipstick back in. Close your hood.
