Fall Cleaning Tips For Your CJDR | Granville, NY

Fall is in full swing and there is no time like the present to get your vehicle ready for the months ahead! Getting your CJDR in tip-top shape for the fall/winter season can seem like a HUGE overhaul, but with a little guidance from our team, I believe we can do it together! That’s why this week’s blog is dedicated to helping you check off your fall maintenance. So get ready to roll up your sleeves, because we’re cleaning in this week’s blog! Check out our fall cleaning tips below, or schedule your service appointment today and leave the rest to our team! Car Battery: Pop open your hood and brush away the dust. Fall is a great time to inspect your car battery to ensure there are no issues down the road when the colder weather creeps in! Make sure your engine cables and terminals are in good shape and retighten if necessary for good contact. Make sure there’s no corrosion or dirt build-up. If this is the case, this would be a good time to disconnect and clean them up. If your vehicle is newer and you have a maintenance-free battery with no removable caps, there’s not much for you to do besides peeking around the remainder of your hood to ensure there are no leaks, breaks, or issues. Headlights: Many new vehicles have LED headlights that you can’t just pop out and clean, so you might need scheduled maintenance with our team if this is your situation. If you still have non-LED lighting, it’s important to clean/replace your headlights to avoid haziness. Clouded headlights can be a safety hazard, compromising night vision, and reducing the effectiveness of your headlights. This is especially dangerous in winter, where conditions are less than favorable and the darkness is more consistent. You can purchase a headlight cleaning kit, or use household items such as a toothbrush, baking soda, and the owner’s manual approved products. Tires: Tire maintenance is always a must, not just during the winter months. However, your tires play a crucial role in your vehicle’s winter performance. The first thing you should do is to check your tire tread. When your tread is 2/32" your tires are considered bald and you will need to replace your tires immediately. If your tire tread is above this you’re okay, but should consider replacing soon if it’s closer to balding. Most vehicles are purchased with all-season tires, which provide good performance all year round. However, if you live in a very snowy area, we highly suggest purchasing snow tires. Once your tires are on and in good condition, we suggest scrubbing away any dirt, grime, or buildup. Wash & Wax: Chances are your vehicle needs good washing after all your summer travel. Between dirt, dead bugs, and even beach sand, your exterior probably isn’t shining like it used to. Give your vehicle a good cleaning, this means the top, sides, underneath, and even the tires. Once you’ve washed your car, it’s a good idea to wax your vehicle’s exterior. Getting a car wax is a great way to keep your car’s finish looking new. Waxing can be tricky, so be sure to check your owner’s manual for safe products from your vehicle or leave it to the pros in our service department! Wipers: Windshield wipers maintenance is regularly overlooked. However, your wipers are extremely important for your vision behind the wheel...especially in the fall and winter months. Leaves will be falling very soon, and rain is no stranger to the fall months. This means you’ll need strong wipers to clear the leaves and rain off your windshield. Right after the leaves comes the snow, and anyone who has driven in a snowstorm knows how important your winters are. If your wipers are leaving streaks of water on your windshield, it’s time to replace or clean them. Although drivers rarely change them, wipers break down pretty quickly. In fact, they should be changed every 6-12 months. Interior: It’s time to say goodbye to the trash that’s taken up a vacancy in your car! After traveling all summer long, it’s only normal your interior needs a little pick me up. We suggest grabbing a garbage bag, your vacuum cleaner, and some multi-surface cleaner. First started by taking everything out, and we mean everything! Then, vacuum away crumbs, dust, and whatever else is in there. Don’t forget to clean off whatever item you’ll be putting back in your vehicle. Then it’s time to dust, spray down your dash, console, gear shift, radio system, and of course windows! Finally, put whatever you’re keeping back inside your cabin in a neat and orderly way, and toss whatever is remaining!

Get Your CJDR Ready For Fall! | Granville, NY

September is basically here and before we know it the weather will start changing and the leaves will start falling. But before fall kicks into high gear, it might be a good time to service your CJDR for the fall, right here at Zappone CJDR in Granville! Whether your ride just needs a tune-up after a long summer of travel or is in need of more serious service, our team can get the job done quickly! However, we know a lot of our CJDR owners like to complete service on their own, which is why we have some DIY fall service for you to complete before the weather starts changing. Take a peek below to see what service you start completing, or head over to our service scheduler to schedule an appointment today! Battery Power: Making sure your battery is fresh is important. The experts say you should change your battery every 3 years, though you could get away with 5 depending on how much you drive...If you’re thinking to yourself “I can’t remember the last time I changed my battery,” it might be time to do so. Make sure the cables are not loose. With the engine off, see if the cables can slip free from the nodes. Don’t yank, but be firm. Check for corrosion, a white powder that forms around the nodes or clamps of your battery. You can clean this off using baking soda, water, and a toothbrush. Fill your Fluids: It might cost you a little bit more but invest in a “winter blend” type of windshield wiper fluid. These tend to have more alcohol in them and less water so the chance of freezing is less. If your windshield washer fluid tank hasn't been flushed in a few years then it could use it! Be sure not to mix colors; most antifreeze is green, blue, or yellow, but be sure not to mix colors. Checking your vehicle's oil is important. If you have not had an oil change in a long time, it might be time for one. Additional Preventative Measures: Buy an emergency kit with cables, a first aid kit, flares, a battery-powered air compressor, and other things that can prevent a minor inconvenience from becoming a major problem. Check the clarity of all your lights. Keeping the gas tank at half-filled can help prevent a fuel line freeze; so can that fuel-line antifreeze mentioned earlier. Tire pressure is important in the snow, be sure that your vehicle’s tires are to the correct PSI.

Your Guide To An Easy DIY Car Wash | Granville, NY

There’s nothing better than heading outside to treat your beloved CJDR to a DIY car wash in the warm summer air! If you agree, this week’s blog is for you! We are bringing you some helpful do and do not tips for an easy car wash process from the comfort of your own driveway! Whether this is your first time washing your vehicle yourself or you’re a seasoned pro - these tips will serve as a great starting point. So, check them out below and head out with your bucket of water and sponge to get started! Let’s get washin’! Zappone CDJR's Car Wash Do's and Don'ts: Do put your car in a shaded area or in a garage. The hot summer sun will make proper car care and cleaning, much more difficult. Wash your car on your lawn so any water runoff will be absorbed by the grass which is better for the environment. Do wet down your vehicle, thoroughly. All you need is a little sprinkle of water to rid your vehicle of any loose dirt or debris that have made your vehicle home. If you skip this step, expect scratches on your vehicle. Don’t use detergent or dish soap. There are many automotive soaps out there which is usually pH-controlled and has gloss enhancers. Use soaps designed specifically for your vehicle, not household soaps that can cause damage to your vehicle. Do wash your vehicle one section at a time and top to bottom. This will prevent dry soapy spots from forming on your vehicle. Do wet the car if temperatures are hot. Don’t let your vehicle dry in the sun, a shady spot or a garage will prevent water spots from forming on your vehicle. Do spend the extra few minutes drying your vehicle completely to avoid water spots. Ready to make a splash? Great! Spring is in full swing and that means that everyone is getting a fresh start! Give you vehicle one by keeping up with its routine maintenance this May! One of the most important tasks of vehicle maintenance is changing your oil! Changing your vehicle's oil may seem like a daunting task, but Zappone CDJR has put together some tips and tricks that can help you do it like a pro! Check those out below, and if you feel as though you don’t have the tools or time to perform an oil change yourself, you can schedule your service appointment right here at Zappones Service Center in Granville, NY! Zappone CDJR’s Tips For Changing Your Oil: Warm Up the Engine Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes before draining the oil. Warm oil flows more easily, making it easier to drain out. Use a High-Quality Oil Filter Invest in a high-quality oil filter to ensure it traps contaminants and protects your engine. Check the Drain Plug Washer Inspect the drain plug washer for signs of wear or damage. If it looks worn or damaged, replace it before reinstalling the drain plug. Use a Torque Wrench When tightening the drain plug and oil filter, use a torque wrench to ensure you're tightening them to the correct specifications. Check the Oil Level After refilling the engine with new oil, check the oil level using the dipstick. Add more oil if necessary, but be careful not to overfill. By following these tips, you can change your vehicle's oil like a pro and keep your car running smoothly for miles to come.

Spare Change May Spare You From Having To Change Your Tires! | Clifton Park, NY

Are you still rocking your winter-worn tires? Well, they might just be past the point of no return! Your tires help keep a grip on the road and keep you from sliding and slipping on wet, muddy, sandy, and rough terrain! If your tire’s tread has been balding, then you’re driving with little to no grip. But don’t worry Zappone CJDR has listed our simple and easy ways of checking your tread depth down below using nothing more than your spare change! Check out our tips and remember to schedule your service appointment for your tire replacement at Zappone CJDR in Granville, NY. Zappone CJDR Of Granville’s Tips For Checking Your Tire Tread: The Penny Test: Insert a penny right into the tread groove with Lincoln’s head facing upside down in the tread facing toward you. Once the penny is inserted, if you can see the entire head, your tread depth is less than 2/32” and that means you need to replace your tires ASAP. The Quarter Test: As we did before, place the quarter upside down into the tread groove with Washington’s head facing toward you. If the tread reaches Washington’s head, you have at least 4/32” of tread remaining, AKA your tires are still in good shape and there’s nothing to worry about! Tread Wear Indicator If you don’t have any coins laying around, take a look at your tread wear indicator bar that is molded onto the tread of your tires. These bars are found at the bottom of the tread grooves in multiple spots. When these bars are visibly flush with the adjacent ribs, your tire has no more than 2/32” of tread left. This is a visible indication that you need new tires for your vehicle!
