Zappone CJDR’s Fall Maintenance Checklist: Replace Your Oil/Oil Filter Oil is your engine’s life-blood - which means it’s very important to have clean, healthy oil in your vehicle at all times. If not, it will lead to issues down the road from accumulated contaminants that cause friction inside the engine. So, schedule your oil change and let our team give your vehicle the green light for this upcoming fall season! Check Your Tires Pressure/Tread While we recommend checking your tires monthly, most people forget. And that’s alright - we’re here to help! While seasons change, our road conditions will change as well which makes it important to ensure that your tires are properly inflated and have proper tread. Also, don’t forget to check your spare tire as well. Examine Your Belts/Hoses We encourage you to inspect the hoses and belts in your engine bay. This is important to ensure that there are no cracks, bulges, or breaks in your hoses because this can lead to issues down the road like an overheating vehicle. Also, your timing belt is crucial to the operation of your engine. If your belt shows excessive wear, cracking, or material loss, it’s time to replace it.

Winter is almost here at Zappone and that means it’s time to prepare your vehicle for all of the ever-changing road and weather conditions that are quickly approaching this December. Below, you will find a list of helpful car care tips that will help you and your CJDR make it through this winter season. Check all of those tips out below and schedule an appointment with our service department to ensure that your vehicle is ready to conquer the season. Swap out regular tires for winter tires. Snow or not, when temperatures fall below 45 degrees, winter tires are recommended. They're made to give you better traction while turning or stopping on cold pavement. Check your tire pressure weekly. Driving on underinflated tires can cause them to wear down prematurely and lose traction on icy or slippery surfaces. Your tires lose a pound of pressure with every 10-degree drop in temperature. Always keep your fuel tank half full. During winter weather, it's important to keep at least half a tank of fuel in the vehicle in the event of an emergency or if you get stuck in the snow and wait for assistance. Pack an emergency to-go kit. We encourage you to keep an extra coat, blanket, boots, gloves, and a hat inside your vehicle when the temperatures drop. We also recommend keeping a flashlight, first aid kit, and emergency contact information or AAA handy. Protect your windshield wipers. If you park outdoors, leave the wipers in the raised position to prevent them from freezing to the windshield. Never use your wiper blades to remove ice, snow, or frost from the windshield; use an ice scraper instead.

Living in upstate New York you know that the weather can be a bit crazy at times. And with September gearing up, there’s one thing that we know for sure and that is that winter is coming. Don’t freak out quite yet, there’s no white stuff falling from the sky but it is time to get our vehicle ready for what is to come. This week we are focusing on your tires and their tread. Below you will find our easy guide on checking your tire’s tread and when it’s time to replace them. Check it out and schedule your next service appointment online today! You should be monitoring your tread depth closely once it reaches 4/32 inch deep. 4/32” or deeper = your tread is still in good shape 3/32” = your tread is wearing and you should replace soon 2/32” = it’s time to replace your tires as soon as possible Now, put your tread to the test with these easy-to-follow tests: The Penny Test Insert a penny into your tire’s tread groove with Lincoln’s head upside down into the tread facing toward you. If you can see all of the head, your tread depth is less than 2/32” and it is time to replace your tires. The Quarter Test We want to recreate the same test but instead of a penny, we are going to use a quarter. If the tread reaches Washington’s head on the quarter, you have at least 4/32” of tread remaining. This means that your tire’s tread is still in good health! Don’t have change? We have you covered! Take a look at your tread wear indicator bar that is molded into the tread of your tires. Bars are located at the bottom of tread grooves in multiple locations; when these bars are visibly flush with the adjacent ribs, your tire has no more than 2/32” of tread left. This is a visible indication that you need to swap out these tires!
